Building a loyal and targeted Twitter followers takes countless hours from crafting content to engaging with others.
It’s a never-ending cycle of tweets.
Some people give up because the task is too daunting for them.
Is it worth the time? That is one question I get quite often. Some people feel that I’m just wasting my time.
It’s worth every single second.
Trust me when I say there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Here are nine reasons:
Is it worth the time to build targeted twitter followers?
1. Exposure
This is the #1 reason you should build targeted Twitter followers. The exposure you can get from Twitter are endless. Through my connections that I’ve made, I’ve been featured on:
- Forbes
- Entrepreneur
- Huffington Post
- Inc
- Lifehacker
- TNW
- Mashable
- & more
All this came from people whom I’ve built a connection with on Twitter. I did so by responding to their tweets and engaging with them.
2. Work opportunities
Fun fact, since I started using Twitter to build a targeted Twitter followers, all my jobs throughout my six year career were from connections that I’ve built on Twitter. These range from freelancing, working with a media agency in Singapore, working with a large brand from the UK, working with an agency in Dubai to working with startups from Singapore,
These range from freelancing, working with a media agency in Singapore, working with a large brand from the UK, working with an agency in Dubai to working with startups from Singapore, Australia and United States.
It’s pretty sweet how everything can fall into place when you put the effort.
3. Reach beyond boundaries
I live in a small town in Malaysia where I knew no one outside of my circle of friends.
Twitter allowed me to build a network of people whom I was able to connect with outside of my circle of friends.
Today, I’m friends with so many of them on both Twitter and other platforms as well. It’s amazing what Twitter can do. I even met up with a few people in Korea after connecting with them on Twittter for years.
4. Branding
Twitter allows you to build a personal brand too. Since you can easily connect with anyone from any part of the world, you have an opportunity to brand yourself as the go-to-guy of any niche.
To do this, you need to make sure you’re constantly engaging your community and adding great content onto your feed.
You can do this by:
- Retweeting others: Create or follow a Twitter list and engage content from others
- Share amazing content
- Share personal stuff: This will help you to stand out more as an individual. I LOVE to share personal stuffs. I find they get me tons of engagement.
5. Learn from the best
The wealth of knowledge that you can get from Twitter are endless. I am where I am today because I’ve learned from so many amazing people on Twitter.
These amazing people aren’t shy about sharing their knowledge and as a result I have become a more knowledgeable person too. I love that about Twitter.

6. Keep up with what is happening
Wondering what’s happening in the world? When you have targeted Twitter followers, no longer will you be constantly searching or finding out what’s happening.
You would hear it straight from the horse’s mouth. I dare say you can even give up your newspaper subscription since all the news you’ll be getting are from your followers now. Twitter is my go-to platform to get news. It’s the platform for many.
7. Traffic
When you have targeted Twitter followers, your audience is more likely to be interested in what you have to share.
These people are more likely to spread your content through retweets and to share it on other platforms as well. I know this since Twitter is my #1 source of social media referrals for my personal blog at Ask Aaron Lee.
8. Monetize
Yes, I said the m-word. Monetization is important if you want to continue to build a business through platforms like Twitter.
Following the previous point, Twitter can be the best platform to monetize your business since you can easily connect with people around the world.
With Twitter, you can easily build a loyal following that will be interested in what you have to offer on your blog. I was able to build and monetize my blog because of Twitter.
The more targeted your Twitter followers are, the more likely they are to become your customers.
9. You’ll Inspire Others
Like how Twitter can get you inspired, you’ll also inspire others when you’re putting in the effort. Since I’ve started, I’ve gotten countless tweets of people from all around the world, thanking me as I’ve made a little change in their life from helping them get more engagement, growing a twitter following to their fitness.
Summing up:
Growing a loyal and targeted Twitter followers takes time, but, it’s worth it as you can see from all the benefits I mentioned above.
Even if you’re new to Twitter; you too can achieve results like these. It’s never too late to start. You’re only too late when you don’t start at all.
