How To: Remove Yourself From Stupid Twitter Lists

February 13, 2010 by Aaron 65 Comments

Twitter Lists feature allows you to organize your twitter followers. There are different ways that one can use them.   You list people in twitter list and other people list you in their twitter list too.

So its great to be listed in twitter list! but what happens if you’ve been listed under a list that offended you? Of course you’ve been love on twitter. Most likely there are some people that might not love you the way others do.

So they created and put you in a list that might “hurt” you.

Maybe like in the picture you’ve been listed under people with stupid mustaches and you got pissed or disappointed. There is one simple technique that you can use to remove yourself from these twitter list.

Here are the steps

1. Click on the twitter list that you’ve been listed on.

2. Click on the user/twitterer that created that list

3. Click BLOCK

4. Click UNBLOCK

5. Done! Check your twitter list and you’re not in the “stupid mustaches” or list that you don’t want anymore.

However there are some things that you need to know, blocking and unblocking will cause both of you to unfollow each other on twitter. That means you won’t be following them and they won’t be follow you anymore.

Great tip but I do have one question. I was told that every time someone blocks you, that it counts against you and eventually could get you thrown out of twitter search FOREVER. With that in mind, shouldn’t we be extra cautious and use this as a last resort? Just curious on your thoughts about this. Thanks

Haha I check every one that follows me (not too many) and I block or report for spamming any that have obviously followed me just to get my attention! That is basically anyone trying to sell something (gets reported), and anyone who is already following more than 1000 people!! There is no way they can be reading all those tweets! That is why I blocked you Aaron 🙂

I still love twitter and maybe you. We wouldn’t know lol

If someone did something, and tried to sell something like tooth whitener, or spam that many people noticed it they deserved to be blocked lol.. There is a number for the amount of blocks. Not sure the number though

LoL.. I found that out when I wanted to send a msg and accidentally click BLOCK.. oops!

Simple. Log in to your Twitter account, go to your “Me” page, click on “lists”, then click on “members of”.

WOW! It worked! I was added to a weird ‘technologasm, teledildonic, telehumping, adult haptic’ company’s list to receive a ‘press kit.’ The same company also added me to an ‘investors’ list today! I didn’t even know these devices existed until I had to Google them today wondering who added me to their list.

Yay! De-Indexed from teleraunchy Twitter list.

You don’t need to unblock. If your goal is just to get taken off that list, then this accomplishes that goal. You can continue to block and it will still work.
