7 Steps To Follow If Your Twitter Account is Suspended

January 29, 2010 by Aaron 461 Comments

You got your twitter account suspended? Don’t worry, I got mine suspended a few weeks back as well. Rather than going crazy there are a few things you can do in the meantime. You can read more about it in my blog post: Inside of a Banned Twitter Account

Twitter is getting really serious lately suspending accounts without any notices (No they don’t give notices). If this happens to you, then here are 7 steps that you should follow besides going crazy.

1. Stay Cool and Calm

Don’t go crazy that your account got suspended. It is actually normal for that to happen because you might not know all the twitter rules. Yes twitter have their set of rules too.

2. Submit a ticket

Submit a ticket to twitter. Just follow the link from your suspended account. If you can’t find it you can submit a ticket here

Here is a bit.ly link that you can use if any of your friends need to submit a ticket to twitter.

When you follow the link, this is what you will see.

suspended twitter account

Click ‘account restoration‘ (click this if you can’t find it)

restore suspended twitter account

Click “my account has been suspended’

When you do, fill this up.

twitter suspended

Make sure you be nice!

DON’T: Write to twitter in an angry manner. That is why you need to practice step 1. Don’t send them a ticket saying ” WTF, why the *#&& did you suspend my account”

DO: Dear twitter, I noticed my account @username got suspended…. etc.. ”

3. Create another account if needed

You can tweet your followers that you are close with. Tell them that your account got suspended and ask them for help IF NEEDED

4. Wait for 24 hours.

Be patient, twitter will reply within 24 hours or more.

5. Reply to twitters email

If you received the email. Reply to it. It will help if you respond to their email.

IF STILL SUSPENDED

Make sure you have filed a ticket to twitter before tweeting them.

6. Tweet @Ginger

Use your other account created earlier to tweet her. Ask her if you had a TOS problem or not.

If no replies

7. Tweet @Delbius

After a couple of days, if @Ginger didn’t reply then tweet @Delbius.

This is ridiculous. There is no reason for my account to be in suspension. I don’t know why they would suspend me especially without notifying me of the reasoning. I understand that they deal with a lot of users that go through the same thing and also need help, but to go months unattended is far too long of a wait.

My account has been suspended for nearly a month and every time I’ve contacted them I’ve heard nothing back. My account has already been suspended 6 times previously for “aggressive following”. The last time I followed 10 people in a day. Still nothing and I’ve tried everything.

I agree completely with Sissi, this is a website where we meet new people and the very act gets you suspended with no warning what so ever, your just suspended out of the blue.

i enter a lot of contests that ask me to follow them, tweet once a day, etc. My twitter account has been suspended 5 separate times over 4 days now. Because i tweet so fast, i’ve bee accused of usinge an automated service to tweet, aggressive post/following. Each time that I’ve been suspended the suspension has lasted longer each time. Yesterday I was suspended twice. Once for an hour or so and the 2nd time overnight. I’ve been suspended again today & I suspect that the suspension will last even longer.

My twitter was suspended on Thursday for no obvious reason. I filed a ticket and my account is back today. My tweet count is full but I have lost my follower and followings. I also never heard from twitter with the reasons behind suspending my account. I tried to file a new ticket request regarding the follow count but I cannot find a request matching this problem. Anyone have any ideas? This is the first time this has happened to me in my almost 5 years on twitter.

My account was suspended today- no reason listed, no nothing. I barely used it, only used it honestly, to unlock things in games. I wanted to use it more though on a regular basis & logged in to upload photos, & find friends- because I haven’t followed anyone or done any important thing that they could accuse me of. After 2 minutes signing in, deleting a couple Clumsy Ninja in game tweets, I got suspended. -_- Obviously they don’t care about gaining more users if they are going to do this to people who have just signed up.

My account has been Suspended … Problem is that I can’t find out why. Anyone know how to find out the reason? I can’t make heads or tales out of their site. I know I have not been aggressive or made any improper tweets. I would feel better if I just knew the reason… that’s all I ask is the reason.. Have a safe Merry Christmas to all!

I got mine suspended, sent in a ticket and got it back within hours. But WHY? I don’t know what I did. Their rules say 1000 tweets per day and mine were not even close to that number. I read the rules and didn’t see any that I broke. There was nothing remotely objectionable — could someone have complained just beause they thought they were getting too many tweets? Why didn’t they just unfollow me? I don’t get it. Maybe if Twitter would be more specific about why we were suspended (meaning, HOW exactly were we being “aggressive?”) then we could be more careful — but if we don’t know, it’s just going to keep happening.

I got suspended for aggressive following behavior. I followed 20 people all within more than 24 hours. Really there are people who follow far more people in that amount of time. I’ve been waiting almost three days and still have not gotten a reply. How long is this suppose to take?

I created a Twitter account for a small celebrity news exchange group for Filipinos yesterday. I only made FOUR Tweets, mentioning said news and a link to our Facebook group if people want to get more details. This morning, I discovered that the Twitter account is suspended. What I found most ridiculous about this is that I only followed 11 people, because when I opened the account, their damned platform asked me to follow people as a “starter”. I did not follow or unfollow anyone after that. So I don’t know how would this even qualify as “aggressive following”. I don’t understand the hype surrounding Twitter. If this platform is going to be this shitty and problematic wherein they don’t even give you clear answers on how they suspend you, I’m moving elsewhere. TWITTER, YOU’RE SHIT!

I got suspended simply for stating my opinion. Someone got offended by my tweet (it was about how I think gay marriage should be legalized, the man offended was very republican) and told his 14.5K followers to report me :/ I can’t get it unsuspended by following these steps. Does this only work for some people or something. I love twitter and it’s my everything right now, I’m completely addicted and I worked really hard to get my followers!!!

Suspended without warrant because TROLLS apparently CONTROL TWITTER!! NOTE: It has not been established that Twitter is aware of the aforementioned!

First and foremost I have to acknowledge that Twitter is a wonderful free service that I enjoy and realize that with the vast number of users including a vast number of abusive users that staying on top of problems surely has to be the ultimate challenge.

It is the lack of equity in relief that is most disturbing, i.e. unwarranted suspension for me while complaints re: abusive troll gangs are essentially ignored with responses, if any, that determine no TOS violated. The trolls know exactly how to write a complaint to Twitter, absent truth, to get people suspended, and they also know how to get back on Twitter in a rather quick fashion should a rare suspension actually occur for one of the gang members. They also use their gangs to, without warrant, spam block people they want off Twitter and seem to never suffer consequence for this violation.

Twitter has users that are aggressive Trolls that work in gangs using Twitter’s service to smear, discredit, harass, intimidate and make veiled threats against Tweeters who do not submit to their way of thinking whether it be political or a controversial issue that the public is discussing.

There is no honesty in their Tweets and if they want to take you down they find everything they can about you on the internet and twist it with lies to suit their agenda which is three fold: (1) reduce your follow count (2) get you suspended (3) smear & discredit you as much as possible while achieving 1 & 2. The agenda exist to begin with because these abusers knowingly and willingly set out to interfere with your First Amendment Right to free speech. Our concern needs to be why and how are they getting away with this behavior?

What is most remarkable is that you can block these Trolls but they still Tweet to @name or @/name or use part of your name in their Tweet to ensure their followers and associate Trolls know who the tweet is about. They also communicate by having some in the gang use private accounts to initiate the line of Tweets that will smear you or they communicate through DM and conspire on what plan action they will take.

What is even more remarkable is that it appears Twitter has taken no action to monitor complaints of this behavior, does not suspend these users when complaints of gang trolling are made and has no action to take against these abusive Trolls who continue to Tweet to your ID even though they are blocked. Blocking trolls only keeps you from viewing their aggressive tweeting and how they are smearing you; unless you look specifically at the Tweet lines of the trolls you know are involved and known to have an agenda against you they freely and without your knowledge carry their campaign. Trolls on Twitter who are there to harass and achieve a reaction where ignoring them solves the problems is not the case with Troll gangs who are on Twitter in relation to a larger agenda; ignoring trolls with an agenda does not work.

Blocking should mean they cannot tweet to your Twitter handle or design Tweets that identify you in anyway as the subject of the Tweet and the current system simply gives them a clear path to carry their agenda with no consequence.

A complaint to Twitter that arrives finding no TOS violation is what occurs or if you are lucky you may receive an email from Twitter telling you that a warning email has gone to the the person you complained about and that if the behavior continues to report back with that email.

I received an email as described 19 days after my complaint and because the abuser received a warning he behaved for a short period and then started in all over again with his associate Trolls. Within a matter of a few days after you receive an email that leads you to believe help is available you receive an email from Twitter asking how you would rate the support you received; with the follow up still pending, apparently you better reply because when you complain with the email designated for the follow up complaint you receive an automated response stating “You tried to update a request that has been closed. Please submit a new request at http://support.twitter.com/forms“. After you did all the work to get the point well made and research all the abusive Tweet’s status links for your followup complaint via email that did not go through, you initiate the process again as instructed to only find that you will receive no email verification that validates Twitter received your complaint.

You can also click on the complaint number and there is an option at the bottom of that page that states “This request is closed for comments. You can create a follow-up” and for a whole second you have a page for follow-up that then disappears and returns you to the Help Center page.

MEANWHILE an account remains in a suspended status as the abusive Troll Gang continues its smear campaign on Twitter meeting the goals of its agenda. So much for free speech! Twitter, knowingly or unknowingly, appears to be TRAP!

Get off twitter get back on facebook, twitter is primarily for the stars and their followers, so all the stars have the rights and you have none. All these sites will be obsolete shortly anyway when they bring in the gagging laws and we’ll all be going underground so we can express an opinion in safety, so all these soon to be mainstream money grabbing gagged sites will be a thing of the past.

I have been suspended for 8, going on 9 days ago. I have sent Twitter at least 4 messages within that time. In the last message I blatantly told them to just delete the account. This entire process is simply getting to much for my small amount of patience. I’m lucky that I haven’t blown up with Twitter beforehand.

I was suspended less than 2 hr after creating my account and post my 1 and only tweet. 8 days later I am still without an active Twitter account. I will never use a twitter account after this experience EVER AGAIN.
