Want to learn social media from the best?
Learn from Fredrik Eklund.
Fredrik is the New York’s number one residential broker who had closed over 1 billion dollar’s worth of sales last year.
Yes! 1 billion!
He’s the star of reality show The Million Dollar Listing with Luis Ortiz and Ryan Serhant.
He is also the author of ‘The Sell’. I just finished reading it and it’s a MUST read book if you want to learn about how he became number 1.
What I love about the book is that it’s not only about the mentality of selling which is discussed quite a bit in the book. Fredrik integrates social media a lot in selling. In fact he said that a quarter of his business comes from social media.
Fredrik shared in his book that he once sold an 11 million dollar listing in 24 hours directly without hiring a co-broker at all.
How did he do it? Through a Facebook post! His commission cheque was $666,000. He did that without any consultants, graphic designers or even an ad. He simply used his mobile phone.
He also became the #1 best-seller by posting a photo of him holding a cover of his book in the middle of the streets before the book launched.
1. Do the posting yourself
Every post that is shared is posted by Fredrik. He doesn’t hire anyone despite his busy schedule running around and selling a billion dollar worth of real estate a year. Why? Because it allows him to be authentic with his followers.
2. Boost your Facebook posts
You only have a small window of opportunity to engage with your fans says Fedrik. Boosting your posts will take out the uncertainty whether your post will reach a certain amount of people or not.
3. Be active everywhere
Be where your customers and influencers are! It’s your work to find out where they spend their time. Fredrik knows that his fans, customers and even competitors spend most of their time on Instagram and Facebook. Those are his favorite platforms. He avoids using Twitter if possible although he loves to jump in to search and see what people are talking about him there.
4. Use Instagram
Instagram is hot says Fredrik. It’s the shiny new object and everyone is on Instagram. It’s his favorite platform to be on.
5. Use visuals
Visuals allow you to connect with your audience through storytelling. Post visuals of you, views and post a variety of them.
He is a fan because it allows him to connect the offline and the online by sharing a glimpse of his life with the world.
6. Be Patient
Success doesn’t come overnight. Getting 100 likes on Instagram made him happy in the beginning. Today he receives an average of 10,000 likes on his photos. You don’t need to buy fans or likes. Build by being authentic.
7. Use the same username everywhere
Think wisely of your username before you register an account because you need to use the same name at every platform. Think of one that you can brand a few years down the road despite you changing a job or industry.
Summing up.
Social media allows you to integrate your daily life with the world. It shares an intimate peek into your life and that is something we were not able to do a few years ago.
Think of your social media platforms like an autobiography of your life and not just a promotional platform.
That is one of the best ways to approach social media.
I couldn’t agree with Mr Eklund better.
