What Qualities Are Needed For A Great Leader?

October 7, 2019 by Aaron

A great leader is someone that is able to command a group in front of him or her. They have this almost supernatural ability to make people behave a certain way — their mere presence is enough to change the entire feeling of a room. When a big character walks into a room, you immediately feel it. It doesn’t matter what the situation is: whether it’s a high-rolling business, a sports team, or a small group of friends, there’s always a standout individual. In any business that wants a bit of success, there needs to be a competent leader at the helm – the business might take off with a shy personality, but a big, strong personality will get things done.

What is needed for a great leader, though? Whenever we see a leader, we just kind of look at them and are completely convinced. We don’t often analyze what they do, however. Well, here’s now might be a great time to do so! The human brain and our behavior overall would take months to talk about and even longer to process, but here are five pretty basic things that most leaders have:

Patience

A leader knows that things take time. They know that, if someone under them needs a little time to adjust to a certain situation, then that’s exactly what they’ll need. There’s a time and a place to apply pressure, and it’s only when things are getting a little too out of control. They also need a little patience when it comes to their own work – lose their cool and rushing everything isn’t what a collected captain should be doing.

Compassion

A leader is quite literally someone that has to lead men and women. People aren’t the same in terms of their skill sets and personalities. There are all kinds of different ways to approach people. A leader needs to know what each individual is going through; they’ll then work together with them to get past any problems. After all, what is leadership if a leader cannot literally guide others through certain aspects of life?

Charisma

Being able to articulate what one is saying properly makes them a lot more inclined to be a leader in a pack. The quiet people that tend to mumble through sentences won’t be able to get their message across anywhere near as well as an outspoken and loud individual. It’s not just a case of being a brash and cocky loudmouth; it’s a case of choosing the right words and having a profound effect on the people you’re talking to.

Drive

If the person at the head of a group can’t be bothered, then the rest will mirror that exact feeling. Leaders are far and away the most motivated people in the room. They need to be if they’re going to have the energy to lift themselves AND everyone else around them. The captain is always the person that has to set the example – if they can’t do that, then they shouldn’t be anywhere near the front.
