Five Ways to Create a More Trustworthy Business That Go Beyond Your Product

February 5, 2019 by Aaron Leave a Comment

Trustworthiness is important in business. People only want to purchase goods and services from businesses they trust.

If you’re looking for a quick way to boost trust among your customers, you will probably start by looking at your product or service. Creating a more dependable product or adding an additional benefit to your services for free are great ways to increase trust, but these aren’t the only ways.

Here are five more ways you can create trust among your customers and clients, and in turn boost your business.

1. Share How You Keep Your Systems Secure

Security is more important than ever in today’s digital world. Customers want to know that their information isn’t going to be compromised by shopping with you.

You can create a lot more trust if you are upfront about how you keep your business secure, and what lengths you’ll go to in order to ensure everything stays secure.

Utilize a DNS security program and share with customers the benefits of the particular system you’re using. Don’t store payment information on your website, or outline how you keep customer payment information safe if you do.

That includes creating a privacy policy and being transparent about whether or not you use cookies on your website. It might also include the steps you will take if there is a data breach.

2. Be Accessible

Being accessible to your customers and clients is extremely important. That means they should be able to reach you by phone during business hours, but it also means providing them with the ability to email you, get ahold of you on social media, and using a chat feature on your website.

It is important that you are accessible, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of your time and sanity. You don’t have to be available 24/7 in order to increase your accessibility.

For example, emails can be answered during regular business hours, as can the chat feature on your website. You can also consider hiring customer service reps to help so you don’t have to do all the customer communications yourself.

3. Be Honest and Transparent

Honesty and transparency go hand-in-hand with being trustworthy, but what exactly does that mean? A few ways to be honest and transparent in business include:

  • Respond in a timely manner to all customer inquiries
  • Create social media pages that invite community involvement
  • Share interesting personal and business stories through blog articles

The quickest and easiest way to incorporate a little more honesty and transparency in your business is to stop making money the goal. Instead, make your goal to connect with your customers. You’ll find that being honest and transparent comes more easily when your bottom line isn’t your focus.

4. Provide Value in Every Aspect of Your Business

You can add value to your business by creating more valuable products and services, but you shouldn’t stop there! You should look for ways to add value to every aspect of your business.

That might mean reducing prices or offering a sale, but it also means thinking outside the box. Consider making something more convenient, like offering free shipping on returns.

You could increase the speed of your service. For example, an HVAC company could promise to be there within the hour for emergency calls.

It’s all about being seen as superior to your competitors. That will look different for every business, but by soffering more value, you can attract and keep more customers.

5. Make Expectations Clear

Expectations are important. Without them, you may be perceived as not keeping your promises. That’s bad for business.

Making expectations clear with a new client might include outlining when they can contact you and including them in the design process. However, clarifying expectations is important for traditional businesses that sell products too.

Always make it clear what your product can and can’t do. Create a thorough return policy, and make shipping times and returns clear.

If you want your product or service to stand out, create some kind of warranty or satisfaction guarantee. Seeing that your product or service is supposed to last, and if it doesn’t, you’ll take care of the problem, is a great way to build trust.

Build a better product, but don’t stop there in your quest to connect with customers in a more authentic way! With the tips on this list, you can think about how to make every aspect of your business more trustworthy, which in turn is sure to make it more successful.
