Tweets For Sale? You Gotta Be Kidding Me

April 9, 2010 by Aaron 10 Comments

Just when I thought I saw everything when I read about people buying followers on ebay, today I saw something new. Tweets for sale! Yes! People are selling tweets. I am not going to mention about the website here though.

Apparently the website is selling tweets price ranging from $10 to $30 depending on how many tweets and type of tweets. You can buy 500 Gambling Tweets for just $10.00, or buy 4800 Inspirational Tweets for $10.00.

Although the idea of buying tweets may seem like it help those who are posting inspiration or motivational tweets, but seriously it doesn’t help at all. Why? This is because twitter is a two way street. It is not about posting tweets anymore, its about connection and engagement.

I tend to think that retweeting is FAR better than buying tweets and scheduling 4800 of the tweets bought. Retweeting helps to build relationship because people notice you, they even thank you for retweeting them. On the other hand, schedulling 4800 inspirational tweets or gambling tweets screams “I am a spammer” since it makes people feel that those who are scheduling tweets are a bots.

Below is a screen shot from the website:

My opinion on buying tweets? It doesn’t help. My tips is just be YOU on twitter.

completely agree with you Aaron,Twitter or either Face book are two social media connecting people , social means relating to human society and its members that s why we call it social media not business media!

Thanks mate, I agree with your statement too! Am not sure why people are selling “followers” and “tweets” LoL! They are getting twitter the wrong way

Not that I agree, (I don't even like those who purchase “featured” links on certain sites Twitter related), but I can see why newer Tweeters would buy Tweets and followers. When I began Tweeting 3 years ago, the scene was completely different. Twitter was true social networking. We shared, we discussed- we followed.

Then, something odd happened. Whomever decided Tweeting needed rules and standards, opened the door for buying/selling of Tweets. Now, we're bombarded by “if you don't do this, you're using Twitter incorrectly,” or, “you have to fit a certain criteria to be considered elite.” Tweeting became a popularity contest and a “who you know” type of atmosphere. Unfortunately, for some, the pressure to be noticed, will make them do almost anything. My philosophy- I've always been me, have continued to be me and what I Tweet is just as important as the next person. No, I don't have 10,000 followers, but- I'm true to myself. This should be the first and foremost “rule” of Tweeting.

Very interesting concept from those guys. I wouldn't buy a tweet either. It's of no good to do that.

Selling Tweets is nothing unusual…in fact, they’re readily available on BuySellAds. Many, many credible companies are selling tweets the same way they sell banner ad space.

I am able to stay home with the kids because people buy tweets. My average income is $5,000 a week. And all is my followers are 100% real.
