Your Store Is About More Than The Stock You Display On The Floor

April 29, 2019 by Aaron

When it comes to opening your first physical store, the chances are that you have one thing in mind and one thing only. We are, of course, talking about displaying your stock. This is, after all, essential for pulling those sales. And, sales sort of matter for making sure that you can keep your shop space for a long time to come. Undeniably, then, the way you display your stock does matter a great deal.

But, if you focus too much on this one aspect, you could let your store down in more ways than you realize. The fact is that a lot more goes into success here than making your products look good. If you want sales, then, you need to take a step back and think about everything that you’re doing. For proof of how important this is, let’s look at just what can go wrong when you focus too much on stock displays and don’t think enough about your whole store.

You neglect your exteriors

Guess what? Store exteriors matter more than you could know if you’re to stand any chance of standing out in a crowd. In fact, any successful retailer will tell you that your exteriors are most vital of all. That’s because no one is going to see how you display your stock if your exteriors don’t impress first. That’s why you need to focus on things like impressive window displays, and a logo which passersby can see. You should also repaint your storefront, and clean it up to send the right impression. Only once you’ve taken care of these steps can you hope to see interior success.

You forget about health and safety

With your focus on making your stock look its best, you may also forget to consider customer health and safety. You may leave sharp corners between displays, or even leave aisles too narrow to get the right look. Either way, you can bet you wouldn’t stand a chance if a customer contacted premises liability representation like the Van Sant Law’s high-quality legal services. To make sure that doesn’t happen, think about health and safety before displays. Always consider whether potential injuries could occur before settling on a design choice. And, whatever you do, don’t take your eye off any sharp corners on your all-important display boxes!

You go overboard

If you’re focusing on impressing with your stock, it’s all too easy to go overboard. You may want to get all your inventory on display, instead of considering the damage that can do to your store’s appearance overall. The trouble is that, in a shop space, less is pretty much always best. With too much stock, your store will look overwhelming and messy. Not to mention that accidents like those mentioned above become more likely when you make this mistake. Avoid this by focusing on a minimalist display design. You may not get to splash all your stock this way, but you can bet you’ll see more sales as a result.
