When you work full time – or own your own business – you’re likely to spend more time in the office than you are at home. It’s therefore very important that the space is comfortable, bright and it is the place you want to be – and that means making some changes.
It’s always assumed that the office should be a formal space. To an extent, this is correct. You want there to be an element of formality in a space where business is conducted. However, this doesn’t mean that formality means boring or dull. In fact, you can have a formal business space that is fun, exciting and makes an excellent impression on the people who come into your office. Brightening up your office space should be a priority for you, so let’s take a look at some ways you can do just that.
Add Some Nature. The very first thing that you could do to add more light and life to your office is to literally add life to your office! Bring in the tall, leafy plants that you’ve admired in other office spaces. Add vases of flowers, indoor window boxes and individual cactus plants throughout the space. With minimal care required, they’re an excellent tool for motivation for your staff – and you!
Reflection Matters. Mirrors add the illusion of space to a small office, and with extra reflective surfaces and mirrors dotted around, you can really create an office with far more light streaming into it. The more light you have, the brighter the space!
Floor It. You may not think the floors are an important focus for your business, but you need to consider it. The right style, the right colour and even the right material can change the way the space looks. Bringing in the professionals to place an epoxy floor patch for concrete is also a good idea, as you can then spruce up any cracks or holes. Your office floors make just as much of an impression as everything else!
Go Lighter. Painting the walls of your office in a dark shade closes the space and stops it from looking airy and bright. The lighter the shade of your office walls, the brighter the office is and the more attractive and modern it looks, too.
Downsize. We are living in a modern world, which means that minimalism is IN right now. So, ditch the dark and bulky furniture and bring in the lighter colours for desks and chairs, and create collaborative space instead of individual tables for people. Downsize the large pieces you have and enjoy a lighter and sleeker space.
Lighting Up. With lighter walls and furnishings, you’re going to be making the space naturally brighter. However, lamps and ceiling lights still have a place – even among all the natural light spilling in! Install the correct lighting in your office, and you’ll be able to keep the office productivity up.
Brightening the office is about the people who work there as much as it is about the guests who will come by!
