Drive Around The Potholes Of Road Businesses

December 18, 2017 by Aaron Leave a Comment

There are lots of companies where road travel is a large part of the business model. Logistics companies, e-commerce businesses and really any office company that has connections in different regions rely on road travel as part of the model. Unfortunately, there are a few areas of this side of your business that can cause issues. However, if you are aware of them, you won’t have to slow down for the speed bumps.

Tired and Tragic

You do need to make sure that if you have employees on the road, they are not driving when they are tired. This issue seems to be particularly apparent in trucking industries where employees often feel under immense pressure to complete a delivery within a certain time and as such do not stop. You can also find drivers suffer from fatigue because the hours they work are too long.

The easiest way to avoid this issue is to make sure that you are imposing strict policies and are aware of the legal regulations designed to protect not just your employees, but other road users. It cannot be stressed enough how tragic the consequences can be if these regulations are not abided by. If you’re looking at this from a business perspective, if a crash is caused by one of your driver’s, it will indefinitely damage the company brand.

Late Deliveries and Lost Goods

It seems almost counterproductive to stress the importance of rapid deliveries after mentioning the dangers of being under too much pressure to meet your deadline on the road. However, there are ways to keep your road business model fast and efficient without putting anyone in danger. One of the ways to do this is to use GPS tracking technology. By using this software, you will be able to monitor every part of your business fleet. This will mean that you will be able to assist with any issue that could cause delays. For instance, since you know where a vehicle is on the road, you could guide them around a blockage or heavy traffic.

There’s another benefit to this type of tech as well. Using GPS tracking, there will be no chance of goods getting lost or misplaced when out on the road. Interestingly, road theft, particularly of commercial vehicles is a lot more prevalent than people would like to imagine.

Service With A Smile

Finally, you must not forget that every employee you have on the road represents your business. Their actions and their behaviour will always reflect on your company. So, if a driver that you have hired is seen to have committed an act of road rage, you can see how that could be damaging to your brand.

Handling an issue like this is just a matter of providing the right training. Your employees and drivers must be aware that service with a smile, whenever they are in public or on the road, is an essential part of the job. This is also an important thing to keep in mind during the hiring process.
