Optimism is Key to Success in Start-Ups

November 26, 2019 by Aaron

Hearing a positive response from other people is ideal, but it’s not something you can expect all the time. There are instances when you will receive rejection. If you’re starting a business from scratch, it will take a long time before getting to the top. You also need to possess a lot of skills. Of all the essential skills to have, optimism is the most important.

Before you get to the top, you will experience lots of setbacks. People will keep telling you that you’re not good enough. Potential investors will reject your ideas since they don’t feel convinced. Even the people you love will ask you to stop it and look for a real job. If you have a weak heart and you can’t accept these criticisms, you will give up.

Take failures positively

You will experience several failures right from the start. For instance, if you want to get money from investors, you will pitch to them. You work hard to get their support. You even invested in a projector ceiling mount so your presentation would look outstanding. Despite your hard work, everything could still fall apart. Even then, you can’t stop and say that it’s over. You still have a chance to change parts of your business plan and pitch again. You can also find other potential investors. Receiving a ‘no’ could mean a lot of things. It’s not only because your ideas are terrible.

You have to stay strong

Remember that when you’re positive, everyone else in your team will feel that way. If you start to doubt yourself and your ideas, everyone will follow. Therefore, you can’t let failures prevent you from doing well. The battle isn’t over yet. It’s not about how many times you get rejected, but what you will do to be better.

Every step will help you

You need to be tough enough to handle big business. You will face more adversities. You will also compete with lots of other potential business owners. The experiences you have along the way will make you tougher and more capable of doing better next time. You have to be grateful that you experienced these rejections and mistakes. Without them, you wouldn’t be the tough person that you are now.

Be humble enough to ask for help

Aside from being positive, you also have to be humble. Make sure that you listen to those who know better than you. Use every mistake as an opportunity to learn. Don’t get angry at people who reject you and have a vengeful spirit. You can still be grateful for them and the opportunity given to you. It’s not their intention to dampen your spirit or humiliate you. If you choose to feel that way, it’s on you.

You will eventually reach your goals, but it’s a process. Take each step carefully and don’t rush. You will reach your goals in time, and you will be in a better position to lead your team then.
