Innovations in Driving Safety

November 8, 2018 by Aaron Leave a Comment

Driving safety is nowadays all-encompassing, as it is not just about the safety of the occupants. It includes other areas, like preventing any possible collisions with oncoming vehicles, animals, or pedestrians. Also, it extends to keeping the driver alert and ensuring that they have their total concentration on the road ahead. Some top-notch technologies, which include forward collision warning, emergency brakes, rear-end collision detectors, cameras, and more, have revolutionized the whole driving experience. You can get some awesome technologies from Eyeride, which provides entertainment like unlimited Wi-Fi and bus TV, as well as enhanced vehicle security, such as GPS tracking devices and cameras that relay real-time information. The EyeRide TV will also be a great treasure for you and your passengers. It has customizable features, such as GPS location-based advertisements; safety content, like videos; and media content. It also allows you to relay information as you wish, both automatically and remotely.

The following are some great innovations in driving safety:

External airbags to protect pedestrians from severe injuries

There are vehicles, such as certain models from Landover, that are equipped with external airbags, which play a crucial role in shielding pedestrians from severe injuries. For example, Landrover Discovery has a sensor on its front bumper, which is able to detect when a pedestrian is struck by the vehicle. On detecting impact, an airbag is released in front of the windscreen to give the pedestrian a soft landing, thus reducing injuries. Some Volvo cars also have the same technology.

Night vision display in high-end cars

Several high-end vehicles, such as BMW’s 7 Series, Audi’s A8, and Mercedes Benz’s S-Class, can be fitted with different night-vision displays. The displays help to identify objects that are ahead of the car on the road at night, which at times may be hard to see, despite having headlights on. When used, this technology can be a lifesaver.

City Safety feature prevents hitting other road users at about 30mph

Volvo cars have City Safety tech, which assists drivers to not collide with oncoming cars as they make turns, to avoid head-on collisions, and to prevent hitting cyclists crossing the car’s path. This safety technology is vital for city drivers who can hardly keep focus behind the wheel.

Easy Speak feature for communicating with backseat passengers

Some Toyota models, like the Siena minivan, have Easy Speak, which enables the driver to communicate through the car’s sound system to reach third-row passengers without straining. The feature is especially helpful for parents, who can reprimand their children seated in the third row, without turning around to yell at them and hence risk an accident.

Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA)

This is a safety innovation that alerts drivers when they go beyond the speed limit. ISA automatically becomes active once the driver surpasses a set speed limit for a section of the road by a defined speed, say 2mph or more. There are audio and visual warnings that notify the driver of their over-speeding. Also, ISA can be fixed with a speed restraining function, like increasing the pressure on the accelerator once you reach the set speed, thus making it more difficult to increase the speed.
