It isn’t uncommon to feel like our working week completely consumes us. We long for the weekend only to find ourselves very tired by Friday evening, cancelling all plans that kept us going throughout the week. Weekends should be time taken for ourselves. Even if you have a family to keep up with, it is still very important to take time for yourself! What do you do to wind down? If you struggle to settle come Friday evening and need some help, keep reading this article for some ideas.
Reach out to someone
Experts have found that individuals are more able to cope with the stresses of everyday life if they simply reach out to someone. Even though this is a simple thing to do, we need to keep in mind that it can be very difficult for some people to ask for help. With this, it’s important to stay mindful and stay in tune with your emotions.
Lucky for us, there have been new apps developed to help us stay mindful that are very easy to access if we have a mobile device. There are therapy apps that provide online counselling, meditation apps, mood tracking apps and so much more. We believe that nobody should head into the weekend tightly holding their worries.
Arrange an activity
As we mentioned in the introduction to this article, we can often feel like cancelling all of our weekend plans because we are very tired from the working week. However, we should do all we can to arrange an activity and see these plans through. Your plans can be arranged with friends and family, or yourself! People are becoming more confident to take themselves out without relying on anyone else whether it be to the cinema, a restaurant or café. Socialising overall is a great way to forget the stresses and worries of the week.

Visit a loved one
Another fantastic way to wind down after a busy week is to visit a loved one. People love visiting friends and family as it serves as a wonderful way to catch up and check in on the one’s we love the most. With this being said, they might even need some space to chat as well. Hopping in the car or on the train to visit our loved ones will help separate the working week from the weekend.
Take time for yourself
We can all agree that nothing beats the freedom feeling at five o’clock on a Friday. Friday evening is the perfect time to take some time for yourself to do something you love. You could create an at-home spa to truly wind down and practice mindfulness. You could also choose your favourite book or movie to indulge in. We also recommend that taking time to journal is a lovely way to keep your mind stable and provides a platform to plan for the future by setting goals.
