How To Start A Blog In A Competitive Niche

February 19, 2020 by Aaron

Follow the money.

That’s a mantra that works across a lot of industries. Know where people are spending money and then position yourself to profit in that area.

When it comes to starting a profitable blog, easier said than done. Blogs are a great way to make money, but jumping into a competitive niche is very difficult. Where there’s money being spent, there’s a lot of competition.

So, how do you enter into these niches and make money?

That’s what you’ll learn in this article. There is a way to compete in competitive niches with some creative thinking.

Read on to see how you can do the same.

Niche down

Let’s take the topic of cryptocurrency as an example to start. If you were to start a blog about Bitcoin, it would be hard to get seen. Even if you have all of your SEO strategies on point, there is just way too much competition to break through.

A good place to start is by finding a sub topic to focus on. Instead of looking at Bitcoin, start with a blog about some up and coming alt coins. There will be less competition and you can gain some traction.

Since many altcoins need to be bought with Bitcoin, you can join the bitcoin referral program and make a lot of money there. It’s one of the best affiliate programs out there so even starting small will make you some money.

This can be done in a number of other topics too. A blog about dogs won’t get you far. But a blog about cane corsos will have a lot less competition.

Leverage social media

Many bloggers don’t use social media correctly. When you are entering into a tight niche, then social media can help you break through the noise but only if used correctly.

People are not using social media when they are in buying mode. They are passively scrolling and will click something that catches their eye. You can drive some traffic to your blog this way, but don’t expect many sales.

Learn how to use a platform like Pinterest and you can bring loads of visitors to your site. Then, get them to sign up to be on your email list. Direct your visitors to a landing page with a free download. This is called a lead magnet that you offer in exchange for their email.

Then, you can market to them at will through their email. You can target them with deals or limited time offers that they might like to know about. And they are more likely to be in spending mode when you do get through.

Be patient

It takes years to build a successful blog that makes money consistently. Even in a small niche, you have to be prepared to take a long time to see results. If you want to make it in a niche with lots of competition then consistency is going to be very important.

Make sure you are doing well researched articles and post on a schedule. Even if you aren’t getting traffic, just keep going.
