Ground Force: Being An Entrepreneur In The Construction Industry (Without Prior Experience)

January 3, 2018 by Aaron Leave a Comment

When entrepreneurs enter into an industry without prior experience, a natural part of the process is learning to correct their mistakes, and so there can be a very steep learning curve. The construction industry is one such area where many things can go wrong, and as there are so many different regulations in place, the potential to make huge mistakes are in abundance. But for an entrepreneur who wants to make their mark in the construction industry without any prior experience, is this a recipe for disaster? Put simply, is the construction industry too crowded for a brand new entrepreneur?

Is The Market Actually Crowded?

The fundamental need for construction and the rise in population means, unequivocally, no. So, for those entrepreneurs who have no experience in the construction industry, the option is there to make a lucrative living, so, how can this be done? The biggest issue in creating a market for an entrepreneur without any experience is all about one simple word, teamwork.

Clients Are The Key

When it comes to developing a name for yourself in any business model, teamwork and the clients you work with, whether they are suppliers, budding customers or marketing companies, clients are always the key. This will help you build up a name for yourself, and that you are reliable. How do you do this? You communicate the idea of transparency. Transparency is nothing new, it’s just sheer honesty. And the more transparency you communicate, the better the caliber of client you will acquire. When you look at clients like Construction Trailer Specialists Inc., they provide a transparent approach to buying trailers, and arguably, in construction, you’ll be using a lot of trailers! But in construction, there is a lot of emphasis on the importance of clients, because they will help you gain that reputation you need.

Improving Your Chances Of Survival

While the construction industry is actually a lucrative prospect, the construction industry has one of the lowest survival rates of any startup. 25.4% over a 10 year period of startups in the construction industry survived. The solution is really all about not being afraid to fail, which is a fundamental trait of any entrepreneur worth their salt. Why you may consider it foolish to go into an industry without any experience of the business model, this could be the secret weapon in your armory. Although the numbers cannot be ignored, it is very defeatist to think that you will end up in that 75% of construction businesses that failed, so to improve your chances of survival is all about seeing the bigger picture, and having a reliance on teamwork and overall commitment to the bigger picture.

While the construction industry can be overwhelming, especially when you consider it to be overcrowded, but on the other hand because you can make a lucrative living from the prospect, it’s a delicate balance that needs to be maintained. It’s a very big challenge to rise to, but it is one that can be done with patience, persistence, and preparation. The construction industry is a bedrock for so many other businesses and industries that if you get it right, it will be lucrative for you, despite having no experience.
