No Application Without Representation: Creating A Successful Business App

November 14, 2017 by Aaron Leave a Comment

Business apps are taking over the industry. Since its inception in 2008, there have been hundreds of billions of downloads. To put that into perspective, experts estimate 2017 will see 200 billion downloads. It isn’t hard to gauge the popularity when you consider the benefits. Applications fit the culture as they are easily accessible on mobile devices such as phones and tablets. Plus, they are quick and straightforward to use for customers. Oh, and don’t forget the marketing opportunities for an app which stays on a device for years.

Still, creating an application isn’t as simple as heading to the nearest developer. Representation is essential for a successful application, but it isn’t the only box to tick. The following are the features a business must consider before an app goes live.

Are The Developers Trustworthy?

When a person thinks of trust, they equate it with money. No one wants to be the victim of a scam, and the company is no different. The good news is that firms in the sector survive because of their reputation so can’t afford a bad review. However, there are companies which will take a calculated gamble to make money and create a buzz. Often, low-end developers need to secure a foothold in the industry and have zero experience. Although it’s nice to help, these businesses are not helpful because they have a skills shortage. Therefore, their ability to create a high-quality app is low, which will result in a mediocre product.

Do You Know How To Use It?

Far too many businesses outsource the task to a third-party and plead ignorance. From a creation standpoint, this is a savvy move because of your lack of knowledge. But, ignorance isn’t bliss, and it can come back to bite you on the backside in the future. At some point, the outsourcers will wash their hands of the project and leave you in charge. Unfortunately, you don’t have the first clue how to run or maintain an app. Therefore, if there is a problem, the company will suffer because it relies heavily on its mobile presence. Something to keep in mind is that the courses for the STL top business apps teach compliance. So, a couple of basic sessions may help you stay in control. Another alternative is to hire a dedicated IT team. That way, there are people in charge who understand how to maintain the app 24/7.

What’s The Value?

Don’t get tempted into the application world without thinking through the value factor. Modern businesses believe they need to develop an app just to keep in touch with the competition. True, they may steal a march, but they will do so anyway if you app is a failure. And, the reason it isn’t successful is that it doesn’t provide a service or take care of customers’ problems. Tinder is one of the most effective examples in recent times. As the dating world changed, the good folks at Tinder found a way to make it easier and less daunting. Now, the app is world famous and has millions of users. To figure out your USP, identify the core value of the app. Also, ask the question, will customers use it repeatedly?

Is The Design Accessible?

The design is more than pretty colours on a screen. According to Steve Jobs, it’s “how it works.” If you are unsure what this means, think about it from a navigational standpoint. Yes, the design scheme has to draw people in and please their interior design eye. But, it also has to flow from one page to the next without bugs or glitches. Therefore, the aim should be to make navigation the focal point of the app from a design perspective. You can always go back and mess around with the colours and the background later. But, navigation is much harder to fix once an application goes live.

How Far Is Its Reach?

The company will have a base it intends to target to increase downloads and lead generation. However, the excellent thing about an application is that it’s available to everyone. Well, it is as long as it is on the right platforms. For example, the App Store and Google Play have a following in the hundreds of millions. But, don’t forget about Windows Apps either. Microsoft has a huge audience and is still a major player in the industry in 2017.

As soon as you answer these questions, you can start to develop a fantastic app.
