Can You Restore a Deleted Twitter Account?

March 26, 2010 by Aaron 46 Comments

What happens if you deactivated your twitter account a while ago? Can you restore a deactivated twitter account? The answer is….NO you cant. Although twitter had this feature a while back. They took it off later. Maybe its a way to deal with spammers? Only twitter has their explanation for it.

I know there are people saying that there is a way to restore a deleted twitter account, twitter did mention that they don’t have the feature at the moment.

Yes it is permanent. So I decided to create a twitter account and delete the account after creating it by clicking deactivate my twitter account. Soon after you click deactivate my twitter account, you will be redirected to twitter home page. If you try to sign in with the twitter account you had deactivated you will get this.

Apparently there is NO way to get back your deactivated twitter account. I emailed twitter to confirm this. This is what they had to say. (thumbs up to twitters customer service. The replied me in less than an hour)

So what do you do IF you really want to deactivate your twitter account but get back the same username?

The only method I know so far is to change your username and email before you deactivate your twitter account. For example in my case my username @askaaronlee will be changed to @askaaronleeONE or @askaaronlee1 before I deactivate it.In this case you can create your new account using the username. For my case I can create a new twitter account with the username @askaaronlee

Make sure you change your email address too if you want to use the email to create another twitter account using the email.

If they deactivated the twitter account for a certain period of time, lets say 6months and above, you can apply it. Twitter mention that they wanted to release deactivated twitter account but I didn't hear any new news about it

no you cant use that @name becuase even though the account was deactived it is still considered taken … i know its stupid … but thats just the way twitter works. I know this cause ive tried. i deleted my old twitter and then made a new one with a different a @name and got tired of that one and tried to change it to the @name that the old one was and it said it was taken.

how do I create a new twitter account with using an email I had previously used with an old (now deleted) twitter account? This is driving me mad. I would like to use my email to start a new twitter account, but it says it’s already in use, even though the account that used it was deleted.

I don’t want to deactivate my account, but I’m so frustrated. I have a question that I can’t find the answer to.
Here it is: Why is the green circle with + sign in it totally missing. It says to follow me or not. Mine is totally missing. The location is directly opposite of my username. No one elses is gone What does it mean.

    Hi,

I have been trying desperately to reset my twitter password since I forgot what it was and I’m always sent the wrong link to reset my password. It takes me to twitter’s home page. Any help receiving the correct link would be greatly appreciated. I can’t seem to get in touch with twitter support either, so I hope someone here can help me.

    Thank you very much.
