Up, Up and Away: Boosting Online Sales the Simple Way

December 14, 2017 by Aaron Leave a Comment

If you run a business with an online element, chances are one of your main goals is to increase your sales. Whether you’re a small company selling a limited range or a huge corporation selling thousands of products, increasing your sales is vital to the continued success of your company.

The good news is, there are numerous simple strategies to boost your sales count online, and many of them can be implemented as soon as you finish reading this post…

Write Honest Sales Copy

This shouldn’t even need saying, but so many online businesses exaggerate what they can actually offer and not only does that put people off from buying, garner bad reviews from those who do by and give you a bad reputation, but in some cases, it could even be illegal! It’s much simpler, and effective, to just be honest. Sure, you want to write your copy in the most convincing way possible, but you should do that with your choice of language, not by embellishing the truth.

Learn Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

As an online business owner, knowing how search engine works is a very handy knowledge to have. By optimizing your business site with the right keywords, you could get a lot of free and targeted traffic from search engines.  According to a recent study by Search Engine Journal, 93% of online experience begin with an online search.

With that said, SEO does involve boring, continuous work such as keyword research, content writing, link building, and relationship building. Even if you decide to hire someone to do SEO for you, it is a good idea to also be knowledgeable about the topic so you won’t get lied to by your SEO team.

Advertise with Google Shopping

Paying for ads doesn’t always work out well, but if you have a product to sell online, signing up for Google shopping ads probably will lead to an increase in sales. If you want to know more about Google shopping and how it could help you, check out this google shopping guide right now. Once you’ve read it, you’ll see just how beneficial being highly visible on Google really can be.

Use Ad Extensions

If you are using ads, whether on Google or elsewhere, then using an ad extension, which increases their size is a simple way to increase the amount of clicks you get because the more visible your ads are, and the more places they can be clicked, the more likely it is that people will do just that. Oh, did I mention ad extensions are completely free?

Include Customer Testimonials

When shopping online, a lot of people look to customer testimonials and product reviews to help them decide whether they want to buy or not. That’s why you should always try to include testimonials on your website and allow previous customers to write reviews, even when they aren’t exactly the best – if you get rid of the bad reviews, none of them will look quite so convincing. You should also encourage customers to review you on sites like Trustpilot so that potential customers have a range of ways to check you out. If you are running your business well, bad reviews will be kept to a minimum, and most people will be able to see past them to all of the good ones, so don’t worry about that!

Make it Seem Urgent

Customers are more likely to by when there is a sense of urgency around doing so. That’s why so many companies run flash sales that start suddenly and only last for an hour or so – it makes people who were perhaps on the fence before, jump right in and make that purchase! Of course, it doesn’t have to be a flash sale; it could be a limited edition product or a buy one get one free offer, for example.

Offer an Amazing Money-Back Guarantee

If you offer a money-back guarantee that lets the customer return the product for any reason at all, and if you offer to take returns back for free, although it could mean a potential loss for you somewhere down the line, if you know your products are good, it could mean a whole lot more sales, and money too. Why Because it will tip the odds of a customer choosing you over the competitor well in your favor because they know they won’t lose out if the product isn’t what they expected.

Target Similar Audiences on Facebook

A very good way of increasing sales that is also amazingly simple is to target audiences on Facebook who already match the kind of data you have about existing customers. Facebook’s platform lets you target lookalike audiences flawlessly and it really does work by increasing your pool of potential customers significantly in the right direction.

Make it Easy to Checkout

Your customers should be able to checkout with the payment method of their choice in a couple of clicks if you want to make more sales and see fewer abandoned carts.

If you implement as many of these strategies as you’re able, there is no doubt that you will be able to boost your sales significantly without too much effort required on your part!
