4 Tips For Improving Communication Among Team Members

August 4, 2020 by Aaron

The working world always evolves and develops. It used to be that companies would hire talented individuals, and then let them get to work. The idea was that if everyone does their individual job well, then the whole company will benefit. But things have changed in recent years. Today, there’s a growing emphasis on teamwork. If a company is going to hit the heights that it’s capable of achieving, then employees need to communicate well and ultimately work together. It’s much easier to reach your destination if everyone’s pulling in the right direction! In this blog, we’ll take a look at a few useful tips you can incorporate into your business that’ll push your team’s communication qualities in the right direction.

Make It Part of the Culture

It’ll be much easier for everyone to communicate if it’s just part of how you do things. It’s always a good idea to consciously develop your company culture, rather than just let it happen organically. If you have communication as a founding pillar of your business, then it’ll be present in everything that you do. Over time, communication won’t be a thing that you need to continually improve: it’ll just be how things are done.

Hire the Right People

You’ll find it much easier to get your team to work together if you have employees who are naturally good at working with others. All too often, companies only look at a person’s education and experience, but it’s worthwhile looking at a candidate’s soft skills too. This doesn’t mean hiring people who are extroverted and social; it’s more about avoiding hiring the people who are incapable of doing this. Sometimes an extroverted person can be a problem, actually, since it’s not about how much you say, but how kind you are.

Get the Setup

Of course, it’s not as if your staff will be talking to one another directly all day. That would be distracting, and in any case, it’s not always possible, depending on the working arrangements of your staff. As such, it’s important that you have the software that will allow them to communicate and collaborate well. Incorporating cloud ERP solutions and internal communication software into your business is a great way to improve teamwork among your employees. It’s also a good idea to ask your team directly if there’s anything they need that would help them, too; they’ll probably have some good ideas.

Office Space

It’ll be difficult to foster a feeling of connectivity and a group spirit if everyone is locked away in their own worlds. The open-plan office isn’t perfect, but it does have its uses. It makes it easier for people to talk with their colleagues, for example. This policy shouldn’t just apply to your team members, either — you should be working out there with your staff too. If you want your staff’s communication to be good, then it’s really important that you’re open to conversations. If you’re not, then you can’t expect your staff to value communication!
