4 Common Misconceptions Everyone Has About SEO

You might think that you have a pretty good understanding of SEO or search engine optimization.

However, I would bet that your understanding of SEO is that it centers around keywords and backlinks.

That’s what I used to think until I started a new blog that focuses mainly on SEO.

It doesn’t, at least not anymore. Sure, these basic forms of SEO are still a part of getting your business to the top of the SERPs.

However, they are not the only factor that you will need to take into consideration. Not even close because everything from social media to content promotion plays a part. As such, there are a few fallacies and misconceptions about SEO that you need to be aware of.

SEO is Always A Positive

There are certain situations where SEO can have a negative impact on your business. The first is by using poor SEO tactics.

Poor SEO tactics include filling your page with links or using poor quality content. Both tactics will lead you to see a temporary boost in ranking, but it will be short-lived. As soon as your site is analyzed, you will be hit with a Google penalty (ouch).

The second situation is when someone uses SEO to damage your company. Commonly this is known as a negative SEO attack. They ensure your company is linked to negative keywords. They attach bad reviews, damaging stories and other info to your company. This is a poor practice though strictly speaking; it is legal.

SEO Success Is A Guarantee

Another common misconception is that SEO companies can guarantee you reach the top of the SERPs.

A recent law case surrounding this claim brought to light an interesting fact. Google claimed that not even they can guarantee a top at the SERPs and that should tell you everything you need to know about SEO. A useful service, certainly, yet never the ultimate solution. You will need to put a lot more into your marketing campaign if you want to see any form of success.

SEO is no longer important

Although there are now many different forms of digital marketing, I would not agree with this statement. SEO is still important and may even perhaps be more crucial to companies than it was before. SEO has grown and evolved but at its heart, the service is still the same.

It is still the tool you need to get your business noticed by customers online. These days there are higher levels of competition, and it is a great challenge. You don’t have any hope at all without the services of a company such as Minyona.com.

SEO is only useful for Global Companies

The last misconception is that SEO is not useful for local service businesses. On the contrary, local service businesses can use a special form of SEO. Using this set of tools they can guarantee that local customers find their company online. Therefore SEO is not just useful for international businesses or global corporations. It’s a tool that big and small businesses alike should be investing in.
