The Dos And Don’ts Of Marketing Your Business

September 3, 2016 by Aaron Leave a Comment

When marketing a business, there are multiple things you should and shouldn’t do. Today, I’m going to explain them to you.

Here are the dos and don’ts of marketing your business:

Do

  • Use A Combination Of Traditional & Digital

Lots of people have been sucked in by the digital marketing trend. So much so, they end up only using digital techniques. Now, using these techniques is far from a bad thing. In fact, it’s highly recommended that you do so.

However, you can’t afford to neglect traditional methods too. Although they’re old, they can still be very helpful. A lot of traditional techniques are proven to bring great results. So, why would you bother excluding them? Just because something isn’t digital, that doesn’t mean it won’t help you.

Think about all the things like newspaper adverts and billboard posters. They can get our company seen by so many people, and bring it loads of customers. It’s silly to neglect them, and you shouldn’t do it. Likewise, don’t use traditional methods and exclude digital ones! What you need to do is use a combination of the two, and you’ll see plenty of success.

  • Get All The Help You Can Get

Many business owners get stuck in their ways. As such, they want to do everything themselves. But, where marketing is concerned, this isn’t the best option. It’s much better if you find some outside help to get you as far as possible. You’ll find loads of marketing companies like SixtyMarketing all over the country. They’re filled with experts that have experience in marketing and promoting a business. So, they know a lot more than you do, and will do more than you can on your own.

Get all the help you can get, as it will elicit more positive results. Especially if you’re a small business with limited marketing knowledge. It doesn’t cost much to outsource a marketing agency, and it’s a worthy investment.

  • Market At All Times

Something I see with a lot of businesses is a lack of constant marketing. Many small business owners think they only have to market during the startup phase. They put lots of effort and money into promoting their business as much as possible.

Then, when the customers are there, and the money is coming in, they stop. They start to slow down their efforts, as they think the hard work is done. But, they’re in for a massive shock, as their sales start to slow down, and they don’t get many new customers. Constant marketing ensures you’re always on the ball. No matter what, you need to be promoting your business to consumers. It’s the only way that you’ll get new customers, and drive your sales up.

After seeing some of the key things you must do, it’s time to focus on the don’ts. Below are three things you shouldn’t do when marketing your business:

Don’t

  • Spend Too Much Money

Marketing can be a costly endeavor, but it doesn’t need to be. Yes, there are certain things you have to pay for. The secret is spending your money on things that are essential.

For example, hiring an agency and paying for adverts. These are two things that can bring you a big return on your investment. They’ll help bring in new customers, and get more money coming into your organization.

Then, you have things that you shouldn’t pay too much for. A good example of this is social media marketing. For me, this is something that can be done for free. Or, at least, for very little money. And yet, so many companies spend half their marketing budget on it! Staying on this topic, there are loads of digital techniques you can do for free or very little cash. Be conservative with your money, as it’s not necessary to spend so much.

  • Forget About Your Target Market

There is one crucial rule to follow when marketing your business. No matter what, you can’t forget about your target market. Every business will have a target set of consumers that their company appeals to. It could be a very small section of the entire market.

Your primary concern should be appealing to them. After all, they’re the ones that are most likely to enjoy your business. It’s a waste of time trying to promote your company to the wrong people. You can try as hard as you like, some people won’t be swayed.

But, if you promote to your target market, you’ll get better results. Not only that, it will help you save money too. Do you know how many businesses waste thousands trying to market to the general population? It happens so often! They want to make as much money as possible and think that’s the way to do it. Well, it’s not, don’t forget about your target market, as they’re the key to success.

  • Be Afraid To Stand Out

The final piece of advice I have is to try and stand out from the crowd. Don’t copy what everyone else is doing with their marketing campaign. Just because something works for one business, it doesn’t mean it will work for you. I think it’s important that you aren’t afraid to try new things. If you come up with a unique marketing campaign, it will only be positive for your business.

People love originality, and they enjoy seeing new things. So, the content you produce needs to be original and different to the norm. It will grab people’s attention, and have a very good effect. Don’t be afraid to stand out, as it can be the best thing for your business. If you produce more of the same, why will anyone pay attention to you?

Your target market will ignore you as there’s another, more established, business doing the same. Be different, and let your marketing campaign shine the brightest.

Follow this advice, and you’ll see a much more successful company. Marketing is one of the key things to think about when running a business. Pay it plenty of attention, and create a campaign that reels in all the customers.
