Get yourself a portable computer

A laptop is one of the most vital pieces of technology. Get yourself one! Why? Because you deserve it.

I used to love my desktop. I had a laptop too, but I prefer my desktop because it feels good to have something anchored and unmoving. I’ve since migrated to love laptops due to my work schedule.

Recently, I was approached by Toshiba to be part of their influencer program and test their Toshiba Portégé Z830 Ultrabook. I never really knew how good it was until I really used it. Today, everyone in my family loves it and has been using it.

Where do you blog the most?

Other than the Smartphone, the laptop is the second most versatile piece of technology that exists today. With the ever-growing range of portable computers that allow business owners to bring their work where ever they are, we tend to forget that the laptop is an amazing technological feat.

The best thing about my work is that I am able to work as long as I have a computer and a stable internet connection. In fact, I don’t need an office. Most of the time I am either working on my desk in my bed room or elsewhere.

Here are my favourite places to blog/work from:

Toshiba Portege Z830 battery life put to the test

We all know that sometimes some things don’t come as advertised. Some products and advertisements may offer you the world but you’ll soon find that it’s only ‘seen on tv’ and it’s not the same when you actually see it in real life.

After I had posted a review of the Toshiba Portege Z830 Ultrabook, many of you had asked me how long can its battery last, so today I decided to put the Z830 Ultrabook to the test by using it on a single full battery charge and see how it will perform under Ask Aaron Lee’s scrutiny and how it will compliment my work.

Part of my job involves me reading and keeping up with the latest trends. Opening a ‘million’ tabs at once becomes the norm because I need to know what’s happening in social media, as well as having other programs opened for writing and sharing some of the best tips that I’ve learned from my own personal experience.

Then there are times where you simply cannot write but at the same time your blog post isn’t quite ready to be published, so I need to open even more tabs to watch a lot of funny baby videos on Youtube to reduce stress levels. *cough cough*

Toshiba Portégé Z830 Ultrabook, Best. Ultrabook. Ever.

Most of you know me for being a social media manager and a blogger. As if that’s not enough, I’ve also launched Leneys, an independent online ladies apparel company I started with my girlfriend last year. Ever since Leneys happened, I find myself constantly traveling as we need to have weekly trips to source our products.

This takes us to other states and countries, and therefore requires me to bring my work wherever I go.

Being a social media manager, I attend events and conferences as well. I remember traveling to Singapore to attend iStrategy Singapore back in 2010, and I traveled as light as possible because I didn’t want to walk around with so much weight on me. It was one the worst experience ever as I ended up not having a laptop with me and tweeting the entire event on my mobile.

Since I travel a lot, I need to have my laptop with me at all times. I need to be as connected as possible because inspiration comes at any given time. What I found out was that being in a different environment inspires me to write more.

Seeing a different culture, meeting different people, and generally operating differently, just tend to bring in a fresh perspective that we writers tend to need. Remember J.K. Rowling wrote her first few Harry Potter books in a café full of people.

Moreover, connectivity is a must when I have to catch up with the latest news on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Pinterest, and so on.

Connectivity is not easy to achieve especially if you are travelling in countries around the South-East Asian region, therefore I recommend that you might want to bring more than one device that allows you to stay connected. More importantly, bring a laptop if you want better experience and increased connectivity with other devices (mobile, tablet, camera, etc)

Failure is not doing

Its 2012 friends! Will 2012 be the end of the world? I doubt so, then again I could be wrong :P . Its great to start a new year fresh! I don’t have a new years revolution set but I do have goals that I want to achieve in 2012. I was able to achieve some last year and I’m making 2012 my “redemption year”. What about you?

Whatever you’ve decided or plan to achieve, I’m going to say something which may sound cliche…… just do it, better yet do it TODAY. In my honest opinion, there is no perfect time to “start” except NOW.

30 days challenge to be a better YOU

This blog is not dead yet… no, I should say I am pretty much here but I’ve not taken much time to blog after starting my internship as a social media consultant. I do have time after work, however the I took the time to relax instead after a long day at work

I also took some time after work to meet up with some amazing people after connecting with them on twitter. One of them is a founder of twofold, Singapore’s learning hub where people can learn different skills and do what they love such as DJ-ing, film making as twofold believes, you’ll be able to making a living doing what you love.

As I love sharing stories and my thoughts, I forgotten about how it felt like to sit down and just write. Despite writing not my strongest skill, one of my passion is sharing, because of that, it motivated me to share in a sense of writing and possibly in video form in the future.

So, rather than just starting to blog again, I thought why not start a 30 days challenge and do everything that I’ve been missing out since I started working. I miss flipping through a book, so I came up with 4 things which I plan to at do daily or start in 30 days.

#1: Blog 300-500 words daily (short and straight to the point).Blogging more helps me to improve my writing more.

#2: Exercise and do 100 push ups daily (as i am putting on weight)

#3: Read at least 15 pages of a book daily. I’ve @likeablemedia book to read and few more.

#4: Start and online business. I’ve registered the domain and plan to visit Thailand or China 2-3 weeks from now.

Those are mine though, I’ve started a small group on Facebook, where 18 people have joined the group and a few have already started to share things that they planned to achieve in the next 30 days or doing them daily from writing daily to improving their CGPA from 3.89 to 3.95. Amazing things to achieve in 30 days. However with the support of a community, its easier when someone is backing you up.

What about you? What do have you been putting off that you want to achieve in the next 30 days? You’re free to post them below or join our Facebook group.

Automation on Twitter: Should you do it?

The following post is a guest post by Leon Widrich, an active commenter and contributor on AskAaroLee.com. Leon is also the founder of BufferApp. Enjoy the post.

Cruising through the twituniverse has quickly become my favourite activity online.

One discussion regarding Twitter I have led many times and found well worth sharing with you, centers around the question: Should you switch the auto-pilot on, on Twitter? Or should I rather pimp my ride a little, but remain in the driver’s seat?

Whichever your answer to the above, here is my lesson learnt:

2010 – The Best Years of My Life

Confession: I have not been blogging at all! I totally stop blogging for a while because I took some time off as I was really tired. Been spending more time at home with my family and friends and catching up with what they have been doing.

Yesterday, my blog turn one year old. Yes! Ask Aaron Lee is ONE YEAR OLD. I wanted to blog about it, but I took the day off (procrastination talking) and spent time at home before heading back to University (I am back in campus now) before I complete my final semester.
