How Many Users Does Twitter Have TODAY

There isn’t any official number of how many users there are on Twitter, but I “think” I have managed to find the answer. Still, I could be wrong, but then again I could be right. However I feel that  it’s fairly accurate (i’m confusing I know).  Nicholas Carlson wrote an interesting post on how many users are active on Twitter, where he explained the amount of people who are active on Twitter, people who aren’t following anyone etc, but I wanted to know how many Twitter users are registered today.

Twitter is not like Facebook, where we are able to get data from socialbakers to find out the amount of Facebook users or the amount of Facebook ads.

Should your business be on twitter or not?

I was in Singapore for 4 days for a short trip to a company that I’ll be interning for. I gave a short presentation on Twitter to the team, and one of the discussions that came up was whether a business should be Twitter or not, since not all businesses are able to maintain a presence after a while, and their account goes inactive after a few days or months of using it.

Question: Should your brand be on twitter?

What would be better?

Scenario 1: An inactive account on Twitter that doesn’t respond to the people’s inquiries or problems

Scenario 2: No presence on Twitter at all? Since consumers or users can’t lodge a complaint online if they don’t get responded to since the brand is not online.

My opinion?

No matter if your brand is on Twitter or not, people will always talk about your business on Twitter, good or bad.

The Video that discovers Twitter’s world

Today is twitter’s fifth birthday! Happy Birthday twitter! WOW is the word I would use for Twitter’s fifth-birthday video. I watched the video several times and the astronaut’s view of Earth amazes me every time I watch it. It inspired me to write this post.

What can we learn from the video?  I would like to share some of the lessons I got from the short and inspiring message from some of the people. The lessons aren’t new, it’s what twitter is about, it’s why we use Twitter, and it’s why we continue to use Twitter daily. Everyone uses Twitter differently.

How To: Expand Your Twitter Tribe

“The tribe has spoken; please leave the tribal council immediately”. To most of you who have watched Survivor, the reality show, would find this familiar.

What is the first thing that comes through your mind when you talk about a tribe? Most of the time, it reminds us of people or groups of people living in the Amazon. True, but when you look at the bare essentials, a tribe is often related as a community.

What they didn’t teach us about influence in school

Could you influence someone on twitter? When someone posted a tweet and no sales or donation come through, would that make that person NOT influential? Maybe. Would someone who has 1000 followers have more influence than someone who has 10,000 followers? It is possible.

There are a lot of talks, in blog posts, podcasts etc, about influence recently. I read on Mark’s blog (one of my favorite blogs out there) where he talked about how there is little influence on Twitter. Mark presented an interesting case about Alyssa Milano, with a Klout score of 84, sent a tweet to her 1.4 million followers with a link to the Amazon page of a book called Connected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks & How They Shape Our Lives and how it didn’t add any additional sales.

Adding the Personal Touch in Marketing

How would you like to receive a personal note when you check into the hotel or receive a gift and a personal note because you tweeted the hotel? That is what Four Seasons Hotel did.

How would you like to receive personal gifts from a company, because you tweeted something? That is what KLM did

Can you imagine flying back to your home, missing the eve of Christmas, and when you came down to collect your luggage, presents with you name on it comes out? That is what a Spanair did.

The “at least” Social Media Tactics

Update: I used the term strategy wrongly earlier, this was actually a tactic and not a strategy. I apologize for the mistake, thank you @markwschaefer for explaining the difference clearly.

Do you have a social media strategy? tactic?

This is a part of our social media blog series where we’ve discussed about having social media goals and doing research. In this post, I want to cover more on social media strategies. tactics

Strategy refers to a plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal. – Wikipedia

You’ve got a social media goal, now what

Great! You’ve got a social media goal, now what? The next step is the “HOW”. How will you get there?

The social media goal article I wrote was published at social media today (thank you guys), and Kirstin wrote a comment asking if I could give some examples on how to reach her goal. There are no methods that can help every strategy since we all have different goals. That was one reason why I did not go into much detail. However the next step after setting up a measurable goal is to do some research.

What Are Your Social Media Goals?

You log into twitter and facebook everyday, and everyday you read tweets, you comment on your friends facebook wall, you retweet blog post, at the end of the day, what are your social media goals? What are you trying to achieve from social media?

A tweet caught my attention recently. It was from Jerimiah Owyang aka @Jowyang, in his tweet, he mentioned that if we post 20 tweets a day we should blog and pay ourselves first. It got me thinking about the amount of time that we spent on social networking daily and whether it is influencing our productivity time.

Personalization is EVERYTHING

*Editor’s warning: Plenty of good Aaron Lee feistiness ahead*

I receive a lot of emails from people to test Twitter apps or services; however, I only reply a handful of them (that reminds me, I need to reply some of them after this). A lot of emails are pretty much standard emails which people usually blast-to-everyone kind of emails. They throw in their fishing rod everywhere hoping for a fish to bite. I do bite. I bite back at them.
